Muso’s Connect Hits the Right Note for Local Singer/Songwriters
Central Coast and Sydney performing artists, songwriters and musicians gathered at Erina on Saturday 3rd December for a full day of seminars and workshops aimed at assisting them in their music careers.
Aptly named ‘Muso’s Connect’ the day was presented by, Lisa Butler, producer of the Australian Songwriters Conference, and was held in the new rehearsal/meeting rooms at Macron Music. Participants learned about the key areas they need to focus on if they want a career in the music industry, and enjoyed a vocal workshop by Central Coast singing teacher, Doreen Van Bree.
“We have so many incredibly talented performing artists and songwriters here on the Central Coast and I think its important to nurture them as much as we possibly can.” Ms Butler said today. “Passing on what I’ve learned in my fifteen years in the industry, both as a songwriter and music career consultant, seems a natural thing for me. Our musicians want to be the best they can be, and they want to make a living from the gifts they’ve been given. My job is to share the knowledge, insights and resources I have to help them make their career dreams a reality.”
The day also consisted of song critiquing sessions where Ms Butler listened to
the participants original material and made suggestions to help make the songs stronger and more appealing to the masses. “Commercial music is all about what the public want to listen to. If you want your songs to get substantial airplay they have to comply with certain structural, lyrical and melodic criterion” she says. “That doesn’t mean you can’t express yourself or your individuality. Its all about knowing what the subconscious mind of the listener hears and likes. If you understand those criterion you can write hit-quality songs.”
The next Muso’s Connect will be held on Saturday 7th April 2012. Please move your mouse over the ’Upcoming Events’ menu item for event and registration details.
